First TVSEP data user and planning conference

The Thailand Vietnam Socio Economic Panel (TVSEP) project organized its first data user and planning conference/workshop on April 4 and 5 in Da Nang City, Vietnam. The conference with the title "Poverty Dynamics and Sustainable Development in Thailand and Vietnam: Research results of 2015-2018 and Prospects for TVSEP phase II" was jointly organized between Da Nang Economic University (DUE) and TVSEP country office at Da Nang. The main objective of the conference was bring together TVSEP data users from Thailand and Vietnam with members of the TVSEP project management team and the staff of the TVSEP National Offices and to take stock of the research results achieved so far and to draw conclusions for the future operation of TVSEP.

The event also marked the official start of the cooperation between Da Nang Economic University (DUE) and Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two research institutions.

The keynote talk with the topic "Rural Development Challenges in Vietnam: Farming and Migration" was given by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Grote from the Institute of Environmental Economics and World Trade of LUH.  Other presenters included former PhD students of LUH who had used the TVSEP data for their research. On the second day the procedure of the 8th panel wave of the TVSEP household survey was presented and discussed. Important suggestions were raised during the discussions that can help to further improve the data collection and data management of the panel.
