Special Covid-19 Migrant survey

Special Covid-19 Migrant Survey in Thailand ongoing

The special TVSEP Covid-19 Migrant Survey is currently ongoing by undertaking complementary telephone interviews with migrant household members of the 2200 rural households in the panel.

TVSEP research assistants at Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU) in Northeast Thailand are carrying out telephone interviews with respondents mostly residing in Bangkok. While for the training of interviewers, Prof. Waibel and Mr. Niels Wendt have been in Thailand, the conduct of the survey is being supervised through online meetings. The online meetings are carried out regularly in weekly intervals. Discussion points are mainly the challenges arising from the recently increasing number of Covid-19 infections in the Greater Bangkok area which often make respondents reluctant to be interviewed. The online meetings are also an important instrument of encouragement and motivation for the interviewers.

The survey is expected to finish by the end of June 2021.
